User Generated Photos - Grubhub
While on the Consumer Product team at Grubhub, I designed a feature to collect user-generated photos for reviews. Research showed users were cross-referencing menu items without photos on Grubhub/Seamless on external platforms, so this project was a step toward bringing UGC photos onto Grubhub.
Project Details
Project Goals:
The goals for this project were to create a photo taking feature that would allow users to add photos to their reviews, so that other users consuming those reviews would be able to make more accurate decisions in picking a restaurant to order from. Since there were sometimes a lack of menu photos on Grubhub menus, it was sometimes difficult for users to assess whether or not a restaurant was for them. As the designer on this project, I was tasked with specifically designing a photo taking flow and associated new components since this functionality was net-new for the platform. In this feature, since we were planning to release this feature first in an A/B test, we were also testing the number of photos uploaded to the platform to test the viability of releasing this feature to a wider audience.
Role:
UX, Visual Design, UX Research
Metrics Considered:
Feature engagement, Order Conversions, Task Completion of Reviews and Photo adding, amount of photos added to reviews to reviews with users
Process
I initially reviewed the past research conducted by our research team, collaborated with my Product Manager to understand the scope of this project, and then proceeded with sketching different flow ideas and UIs. At this point, I created a few wireframe iterations and collaborated with my design team, product managers, and engineers on the project to pick an option.
I then conducted an in-person usability test to get feedback on an initial wireframe prototype.
Final Designs
After synthesizing the results of our user testing, and socializing these results for our team, I modified the UX of my designs and completed visual designs and animations for this project using Principle. I additionally provided final flows and specs for mobile and tablet sizes for my team. I then worked with engineers to provide VQA feedback and fine-tune animations as this feature was built.
Designs included:
iOS, Android
